Are Some Camera Components More Important Than Others?

Not every camera product  has the same price. That's obvious. Not every product has the same function. That's also obvious. You purchase your equipment for its function, its ability to get you the shot you want. Some products make your shots easier, while others require that you get more involved in the shot, to get what you want. You may have not realized while shooting, but you definitely place more value on some of your gear than others. Maybe you put more value on products that you've used for a long time, or products that cost you more, or products that you wanted for a while before being able to purchase it.  Like it or not, some things are just more valuable to you. Despite your personal feelings about your gear, are you right to think that some products are more important than others? Is it true that one product could have more value than another? Surprisingly, the answer isn't so simple.

How would we know if one camera component is more important than another? They each work together to capture images how we want them to be captured. The tools you use to create your images and videos are powerful by themselves, but they excel with complementary parts. A camera can’t shoot without a lens, and a lens is useless without a camera. So, can you really say that one element is more important than another?

The real answer lies in your what your goals are for your work. What you’re shooting will determine which tools you can use and how you can use them. There will never be a single tool that can shoot every scene. Some shots won’t be possible without a certain camera body because of its features, while other shots will be much easier because of your lens choice.

So, how do you know if one component is more important than another? You know by how important it is to you to get exactly the shot you want, and how easy you want it to be to achieve that shot. If you’re okay  with extra physical work, you’ll probably be ok with any old gear. If you’re adamant about staying true to your vision and creating exactly what’s in your head, then some you'll be adamant about specific gear. The true measure of which component is more important comes from you. The importance of your artistry will ultimately determine the importance of your camera components.
